THE HOPE PROJECT RECEIVES $5,000 GRANT FROM
MARY KAY MAKEOVER CONTEST WINNER
Chapman submitted before and after photos of her makeover, as well as a brief statement about her passion for the fight against human trafficking to enter the contest. In honor of Mary Kay Inc.’s 50th anniversary, 50 contest winners each are receiving a $5,000 grant as a tribute to company founder Mary Kay Ash, who started the company with only $5,000 and a dream to enrich the lives of women around the world.
"When we think of human trafficking, we think it is only happening overseas, or maybe even in big cities in the United States, but we never think it is happening in West Michigan,” stated Amanda Chapman. “That is why I'm excited to support The Hope Project; because they are making a difference in the lives of people right here in our community that have been affected by human trafficking."
The Hope Project will use its $5,000 grant from Mary Kay Inc. to raise awareness about human trafficking as it works to open its home for girls, ages 11 to 18, rescued from sex trafficking here in the US.
“We are grateful to Amanda for her dedication to our cause, and to Mary Kay Inc. for providing her with this opportunity,” Jeff Martineau, Executive Director and Founder said. “These funds help us do awareness—‘Awareness leads to prevention’ is a motto we firmly hold to, preferring for children to never experience the trauma of sex trafficking.”
“As our ministry becomes better known, adult survivors of child sex trafficking are reaching out to us because finally they have someone who understands what happened to them,” explained Martineau. “Through Amanda’s efforts—and all those that supported her nomination—we will be able to reach even more people, and continue connecting adult survivors to resources.”
